WELCOME

Getting started in yoga is different for everyone and there are many ways to begin. If you have never done yoga before we recommend taking one of our introduction to yoga courses, which we offer monthly. These courses meet once a week for 3-4 weeks and are designed for students new to the practice. Some people do find it helpful to take more than one intro course. Level 1 classes are also recommended for newer students, as the techniques and various positions are introduced and explained.

After you start to develop a foundation for your practice, which can take 3-6 months of consistent practice 1-3 times a week, we encourage you to explore different classes and teachers to find out what resonates with you. Yogaview is home to some of the most experienced and dedicated teachers in the area, but different teachers and approaches work for different people at different times. Try to find a class that works with your schedule and needs and stick with it, but don’t hesitate to explore other classes if you feel prompted to do so. Our staff can help you navigate the schedule and find out what is right for you.

Yoga is about listening and becoming more sensitive and aware, so we recommend listening as much as possible to your body and brain and erring on the side of caution when you attempt new poses. The benefits of incorporating a yoga practice into you life are numerous and profound, but it is also easy to injure yourself before you know where your “edge” is. This is one of the reasons our introduction to yoga and Level 1 classes are taught by experienced instructors. They understand the benefits and risks and want to introduce you to the practice in a way that is safe and suits your needs.

Please let us know if you have any further questions on how to get started.
