Katie originally came to yoga in 1996 as a way to help counter the effects of long-distance running. At that time, Ashtanga yoga was just beginning to gain momentum in the city of Chicago. Enamored with both its physical challenges as well as its ability to ease stress and anxiety, she found herself recommending yoga to colleagues and clients in her work as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. In 2000, she completed her teacher training under Suddha Weixler at the renowned Chicago Yoga Center. Her time spent at the Chicago Yoga Center with Suddha and teachers Mary Klonowski and Cara Jepsen provided her with a foundational love of Ashtanga that would take her through the transitional time of having two children and multiple moves around the country.
A move back to the Chicago suburbs in 2008 brought her to North Shore Yoga, where teachers Sharyn Galindo and Bridgett Piacenti helped to strengthen her belief in the transformative nature of this practice. For the last 6 years, Katie taught Mysore and Led Primary at Shri Yoga in Highland Park. Katie continues to build upon her understanding of the practice by studying with many senior teachers of Ashtanga, most notably Tim Feldmann and David Keil. From her teachers she has learned that the practice, when approached with love and patience, helps moderate our discomfort, our human inclination to always want more, so that we may be more at ease with who we are in the world.
